Welcome to our new school!

Mulberry Academy London Dock is a brand new school scheduled to open in September 2024 with Year 7 students

Our aim is to ensure outstanding achievement for all, enabling our young people to lead successful and fulfilling lives, making a positive contribution to their own community and beyond.

The Mulberry Schools Trust will be opening an outstanding, six forms of entry, 11-19 co-educational comprehensive school on the London Dock residential complex, replicating the excellent provision in Mulberry Academy Shoreditch and Mulberry School for Girls.

The new school will be a flagship school, delivered in partnership with the Local Authority and the Department for Education, creating another truly exceptional school in Tower Hamlets with first class facilities to rival anything that can be found elsewhere in London.

Mulberry Academy London Dock’s innovative design uses Passivhaus technologies, creating a building with exceptional air quality and very low environmental impact. The architectural design will also create considerable green space with extensive facilities for sports and leisure, which will be open to the community.

Its ethos will promote community cohesion, inclusion and a rich social mix in which all children can thrive, regardless of background.

The school will open initially in 2024 with only Year 7 students, and will grow one year at a time, until full in 2029.

Our curriculum

Every student will be given an education that has three key aims:

To engender high levels of academic and technical ambition with knowledge of how to learn and how to communicate one’s learning with strong understanding, through high quality, confident writing and speaking. Students will learn the intellectual skills and technical language for the subjects they study so that they can perform at the highest level.
To provide rich personal development that includes a strong moral, spiritual and social foundation, to foster a highly developed imagination and creativity. Students will be taught to think critically and analytically, to be enquiring, thoughtful and questioning and to be open- minded with a strong understanding of the world around them.
To enable the development of students’ high aspirations and self-determination through opportunities for leadership, engagement with higher education and the professional workplace and experience of different cultures. Students will become global ambassadors – for the school, their community and for British society.

Students will study a rigorous and challenging academic curriculum with a focus on the arts and STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths), but broad and balanced, and complemented by a wide ranging extra-curricular offer. We expect students to stay in our Sixth Form – on the fifth floor of Mulberry Academy London Dock, where a full range of A level subjects will be offered, along with high levels of support to ensure all young people reach their destination of choice.

Learning support

Inclusion

Mulberry Academy London Dock is a fully inclusive school. We strive to ensure every young person is well supported, guided and achieves their very best. Students with SEND (special educational needs and disabilities) will be well supported through differentiated teaching in mainstream lessons, in class support as well as small group teaching in our specialised inclusions hub.

Teaching assistants, pastoral officers and learning mentors will all work collectively to meet the needs of individual

students. We will positively celebrate each individual’s success and value the contribution that they will make.

The new building will be fully accessible.

Physical accessibility

All of our buildings and changing rooms are wheelchair accessible, with disabled toilets and lifts, allowing access to all floors.

Pastoral care

Mulberry Academy London Dock believes that incredible pastoral care is the backbone of high achievement.

We will nurture and care for all our young people so they flourish and become healthy, responsible adults. Each year group will have a Head of Year, and a tutor, who see them twice each day, and who will develop s strong ethos and community within the school. This will include rewards, trips and activities and a comprehensive programme for the teaching of PSHE.

We have highest expectations of students’ behaviour and will develop our young people to be passionate about their learning, respectful towards others, innovative, creative, determined and to work for excellence in everything they do.

Extracurricular activities

At Mulberry Academy London Dock we believe firmly in enriching our students’ lives both inside the classroom and outside. This will include:

Leadership programmes such as Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and Model UN, sports – competitive and recreational, residential and overseas trips, outdoor education and our Mulberry STEM Academy, in partnership with Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix Ltd.
